Indian peace medals were originally circular silver medallions used by, U.S government to establish relations with the native Americans.
In the late 18th to 19th century they were minted until the term of Andrew Johnson. Ended either the the President or an agents gave medals to the Chiefs of significant warriors of Native American tribes as tokens of friendship and Sovereignty. This is a replica that was minted in the 1960s and was fashioned into a necklace Pendent. It was purchased at the gift shop at the US Mint in Denver Colorado in 1972 made of bronze electro plated in 24k gold. It has a Weight of 20.3 Grams size of a half dollar. It is in very fine conditions for been 51 years old it has few tiny red marks, I did not try to clean it and take away the patina. Still very bright wet shine. It came from an estate sale I can not find any other as nice as this one or even like it. I CALL IT A VERY RARE ITEM.
